Club
Hours. Meetings, Dues and Membership Cards
The Club will continue to be open every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
from 4:00-9:00 pm. The Board of Trustees and the Officers will have their
regular monthly meeting on June 15th. The Board of Trustees will meet
at 5:30 pm and the Officers will meet at 6:30. As of the writing of this
newsletter, there are still 43 delinquent members. For those that have
not yet paid their dues, I ask that you send in your check today. We need
you as a member. If you did not get a card as the spouse of a member and
you want one then just let the office know.
Meals on Membership Nights
We will continue to have meals every Thursday night from 6:00 –
8:00 pm on a first come first serve basis. Once again, we need to thank
all of those members and their guests for using the club to eat, to play
cards or to visit. Where in town can you get a full meal for $6.50 per
person and have free coffee? Bring a friend with you, especially one that
might become a new member. If you have not been there yet just give the
meals a try.
Here are the meals for the month of June:
| June 1st |
3 pieces of Golden Fried Chicken, AuGratin Potatoes
and Green Beans |
| June 8th |
Breaded Pork Loin, Mashed potatoes, Gravy and Cole Slaw |
| June 15th |
Western BBQ Ribs, Baked Potatoes and Spring Salad |
| June 22nd |
Boneless Pork Chops, AuGratin Potatoes, and Tossed Salad |
| June 29th |
Grilled Sirloin Steaks, Baked Potatoes and Cole Slaw |
We need to offer a special thank you to Ron and Roger for the excellent
job they do cooking the steaks. Three years ago when we sold the building
to get out of debt many individuals said that we would never make a come
back. Maybe these people should come down on a Thursday night and see
what is going on as we sell more meals now than we did when we had a kitchen.
Home Page and e-mail Addresses
The Lodge home page is at www.brookingselks1490.org.
This page always contains the most recent newsletter as well as other
pertinent information concerning the Lodge and the Club. Our e-mail address
is Elks1490@mchsi.com and this

Thank You
It is a real pleasure for me to thank Ron and Dorothy Zuiderhof for managing
and taking care of the Club so that Shirley and I could go to Mesa, AZ
for 9 days in order to help out a sister-in-law. It was extremely hot
in Mesa but we had a terrific time and are glad to be back into the cool
weather zone. We also want to thank all those that helped Ron and Dorothy.
It is such a pleasure to see members helping each other, which is what
the Elks is supposed to be all about.
Flag Day
As all Elks know, no veteran shall ever be forgotten as long as an Elk
is alive. This is why Memorial Day, Flag Day, the 4th of July and Veterans
Day mean so much to all those that are Elks. June 14th is Flag Day, which
is a special day when we should take some time to honor our flag. We shall
do this at 7:00 pm on June 14th. Following a very short ceremony, there
will be free sandwiches and salads for those that attend. We hope to see
many of you there to support the Lodge and our Flag.
The Elks National Foundation
Often referred to as the “Great Heart of Elkdom”, the Elk’s
National Foundation funds many of the Elk’s charitable programs
such as the Hoopshoot, the Veterans services, the State Elks Major Projects,
Drug Awareness, and the Scholarship programs. The foundation is funded
primarily by voluntary contributions from Elks across the nation and only
the interest and earnings on the Foundation’s principal fund are
spent. The principal changes only by the donations given to the organization.
We encourage all of our members to become a participating member of this
noble foundation. A participating membership is $100.00 payable to the
Foundation either in one lump sum or in installments of $10.00 per year
for ten years. Our Lodge has ranked high for total contributions to the
ENF for the past two years and it is interesting to note that for every
dollar we give we receive 3 to 4 times as much in return in the form of
grants, scholarships, support for the Dare program and the hoop shoot.
Call Jerry at 692-4640 to sign up or for more information. Help support
the ENF.
Sad News
During the past three years, we have had 3 wonderful young ladies serve
as a bartender/waitress. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an
end. Jennifer Lynch took a job in Sioux Falls in the area of Graphic Design,
which was her major at SDSU. Becky Banks has also taken a job in Sioux
Falls where she has a better chance for advancement and higher salaries
and, as all of you know, Wendy Cradduck had a baby girl that is growing
like a weed. Hence, these individuals will be leaving the Elks. Because
of their dedication to the Club, they shall be missed but we want to wish
them the best of luck. Hopefully, they will return to help us out when
needed. Currently, we will be looking for a person to replace these three
young ladies and take over some of the work the ER has been doing. If
you know of anyone interested in being a bartender/waitress have him or
her give Jerry a call.
